Bath CC 4th XI v Stapleton CC 2nd XI

Bath CC 4th XI came out on top on Saturday in their home fixture against Stapleton’s 2nd XI.

After losing the toss and being asked to field, Bath’s opening bowlers made an early breakthrough as Aurangzeb Mohammed (1) was caught behind with only 1 on the board. Callum Birkinshaw (4) soon followed to leave the away side 15-2. A period of tight bowling from Ashik Mia (2-23) and young seamer, Ben Puzey (1-12) then really put the pressure on Stapleton’s batters as they slipped from 52-2 to 77-6. Guy Wilson (29) and Ian Purchase (30) then helped get Stapleton’s total up to 139 all out in the 35th over. In addition to Mia and Puzey, Alan Alex (2-35) and Max Woodman (3-16) also bowled well.

Bath’s reply stuttered as they slipped to 32-2, but David Pippett (48) and Jack Pippett (35) then added 68 for the third wicket to take the home side up to 100-3 when David Pippett was caught behind just short of a half century. Jack Pippett soon followed and then Bath had a bit of a wobble before Matthan Balasubramaniyan (12*) and Max Woodman (7*) took the home side over the line to win by three wickets in the 32nd over.
