Bath CC 3rd XI v Lansdown CC 2nd XI
Bath’s 3rd XI lost their local home derby match against Lansdown CC 2nd XI on Saturday.
After winning the toss and electing to field, Bath found themselves on the end of a positive opening stand largely driven by an innings of 46 off just 27 balls from James Pitman, before he was trapped in front by Josh Norgrove (2-48) to leave the away team 63-1. Ollie Kohut was also soon trapped in front by Norgrove as Lansdown slipped to 72-2, But Dan Veal then joined Sam Athay to add another 52 runs before Athay (34) was out. Veal continued to marshal the middle and low order as wickets began to tumble, largely off the bowling of Varchas Shivakumar (4-37), and in the end Veal finished the innings undefeated on 51 as Lansdown posted 219-8 from their 40 overs.
Bath’s reply got off to a positive start as Josh Norgrove and Will Poulton put on 43 for the first wicket before Norgrove went for 28. Skipper, Mike Staves (5) soon followed and when Ishwar Suresh (8) and Poulton (35) went in quick succession, Bath found themselves 77-4, which then became 77-5 as Charlie Pritchard went for a duck. The home side looked in serious trouble, but Ben Harper (60), Innes Pierce (23) and further contributions down the order took Bath close, but they ultimately fell 23 runs short when Varchas Shivakumar (14) was the last batter out with three balls to go. Despite losing, Bath 3rd XI remain top of the B&D 1st Division, with a 14 point lead over Whitchurch CC 1st XI.
