Bath CC 3rd XI v Lansdown CC 2nd XI

Eighty overs of cricket couldn’t split the sides at Combe Park on Saturday, as Bath’s 3rd XI and Lansdown’s 2nd XI tied their B&D First Division league match.

After winning the toss and electing to field first, Bath’s bowlers made a good start as Lansdown lost Sam Avery for 12. However, Adam Carlin (56) and skipper Dan Veal (55) then put a fine partnership together, but once these two batters were removed, Bath’s young bowling attack, which bowled with great discipline, stayed on top with only Jackson Hamilton (29*) making a significant score, as Lansdown reached 222-7 from their 40 overs. The pick of the Bath bowlers were Joe Prescott (4-40) and Veera Sasidharan (2-33).

Although Bath’s reply stuttered with the early loss of opener Dan Hope (4), all of the Bath batters made starts to build a run chase, largely through Richard Pandya (46), Freddie Stappard (36), and Joe Prescott (42). With Bath five wickets down, and with Lansdown bowling well after drinks, there was still work to be done. But Charlie Pritchard (28), and skipper, Will Ireland (26*) then took Bath close to victory, and with 30 needed to win from the last two overs, and three from the last ball, they couldn’t quite get over the line as they finished tied with Lansdown on 222-6 in their 40 overs. Both sides pick up 13 points which ensured the 3rd XI remains second in the league, closing the gap with top of the table, Lodway to just seven points.
