Bath CC 1st XI v Cardiff CC 1st XI – ECB National Club Championship

Bath CC 1st XI travelled to Cardiff on Sunday for their first round match of the ECB National Club Championship against Cardiff CC 1st XI.

After wining the toss and electing to bat, Bath openers, Jack Scivens and Ben Wells made an impressive start powerfully putting away any lose deliveries. The pairing raced to a 209 stand in just the 25th over of the match when Scrivens went for an excellent 84. Wells continued to bat effectively with the lower and middle order, smashing the bowling to all parts to pass his century and then go on to make 157 off just 108 balls with six sixes and 22 fours. Bath eventually finished on a massive 339-5 from their 40 overs.

Cardiff’s reply never really recovered from losing opener Sam Evison (2) fourth ball of their innings. There were a number of contributions from Cardiff’s batters including Joe Willis (45), but none of the five batters that passed 20 managed to convert a solid start into a match winning innings. Bath’s bowlers all bowled well, but Australian, Harry Dixon picked up 3-30 from his 5.5 overs as the home side were bowled out for 184, still 155 runs adrift from the Bath total. Bath move on to the next round of this national competition, where they will play Penzance away on 31st May.
