Bath CC 1st XI v Frocester CC 1st XI
Bath CC 1st XI took their batting form from last Sundays’ national club championship win into their Premier One league encounter with Frocester CC 1st XI on Saturday.
After being asked to bat first at Frocester’s Pounds Close, openers Jack Scrivens and Ben Wells got the away side off to a flying start, putting on 79 for the first wicket, when Scrivens went for 20. This then brought Australian, Harry Dixon to the crease to continue the momentum, putting on another 42 runs in just seven overs before Wells went for an excellent 77 off just 69 balls. The dangerous Sam Young then joined Dixon, and these two batters amounted a 106 run partnership before Dixon was caught behind for 69. Young continued to bat effectively with the middle and lower order, posting an impressive century which eventually ended when he was caught for a powerful 137 from just 84 balls, shortly before the end of Bath’s innings, which finished on an imposing 359-7 from their 50 overs.
Rain then set in before Frocester’s reply, and a revised target of 264 runs from 32 overs was set. Frocester then got off to a very positive start, reaching 34 before the end of the fifth over when Samuel Hewitt (10) was bowled by Josh Sutton. Sutton (2-43) soon grabbed the wicket of Zain Syed (27), to leave the home side 39-2. Wickets continued to tumble before Luke Woolway (39) and Zeig Roos (77*) got together to take Frocester’s score up to 123-5 in the 20th over. Roos continued to bat well with the lower order, but in the end the home side fell 17 runs short of the revised target as they finished on 246-8. Bath’s James Arney (2-45) and Matthew Cadywould (2-46) both bowled well.
