Bath CC 2nd XI v Downend CC 2nd XI
Bath CC 2nd XI v Downend CC 2nd XI
Bath’s 2nd XI travelled to Bristol on Saturday to face Downend’s 2nd XI.
After Downend won the toss and elected to bat first, Alex Burkhart (2-45) removed Edward Chidgey (7) in the ninth over to leave the home side 32-1. David Goodway (14) soon followed, bowled by Harry Allen, but then skipper, Blake Sculthorpe anchored the innings. Sculthorpe hit a run-a-ball 78 as wickets fell around him. Daniel Lenton (36) and Theo Gordon (23) also made contributions before Downend were bowled out for 276 in the 45th over. Pick of the Bath bowlers were Harry Allen (3-60), Max O’Farrell (3-57), and Alex Burkhart (2-45).
Bath’s reply started badly as both openers were out in the first six overs to leave the away side 27-2. Contributions from Harry Allen (23), Kester Moseley (44) and Max O’Farrell (23) took Bath up to 121-5, but it required one of these batters to go on to post a significant score for the away side to stand a chance of chasing down Downend’s target. Wickets continued to fall, and with only Alex Burkhart (30) making a solid contribution down the order, Bath were eventually bowled out for 194 in the 42nd over to lose by 82 runs. Bath are now fourth in the league.
