Bath CC 1st XI v Thornbury CC 1st XI
Bath CC 1st XI travelled to the outskirts of Bristol to play Thornbury CC 1st XI on Saturday.
After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Bath made a lively start reaching 44 inside six overs before Jack Scrivens (16) departed, and then three balls later fellow opener, Harry Dixon also went for 26, leaving the away side 44-2. Ben Church and Sam Young then began to rebuild the innings, putting on 43 before Church went for 18. Young and Alex Haleem then added a further 50 for the fourth wicket before Young went for a run a ball 44 to leave Bath 137-4. Haleem then batted well with skipper Harry Ellison, adding a further 58 to the score before Haleem was run out by Declan Farland for 46. Ellison (29) soon followed, but contributions from James Arney (16), Josh Sutton (33), and Matthew Cadywould (19*) got the away side up to a respectable 277-9 from their 50 overs.
Thornbury’s chase started perfectly with openers Josh Riggs and Chris Gibson combining well to take the home side’s total to an impressive 146 in just 16 overs when Riggs went for a powerful 95 off just 56 balls, which included 18 boundaries. Thornbury looked well and truly in control, but then Bath began to fight back, snapping up the wicket of Logan Bowden (7), bowled by Cadywould. The reintroduction of young left arm pace bowler Sam Barnes (3-47) to the attack then proved a masterstroke, as he took three wickets including Chris Gibson (58) inside just five overs of play as Thornbury slipped from 185-2 to 202-6. Even though the home side had plenty of overs to knock off the remaining 78 runs for victory, the momentum seemed to be with Bath. However, Declan Farland (30) and Alex Riggs (45*) helped steer Thornbury to victory with nine balls to be bowled to win by three wickets. Bath are now sixth in Prem One.
