Bath CC 2nd XI v Bishopston CC 1st XI

Bath 2nd XI slipped to second place in WEPL Bristol & North Somerset after losing their top of the table home clash with Bishopston CC 1st XI on Saturday.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Bath lost the inform Charlie Brain (5) early and although Dollin Jansen and Ben Harper added a further 45, Harper (14) also departed to leave Bath 54-2. Kester Moseley then joined Jansen and this pair compiled a 50 partnership inside 16 overs before Jansen (49) was trapped in front painfully short of his half century. At 104-3, Moseley then continued his good work, first with skipper Charlie Rustell (26) and then with Max O’Farrell (23) before he was the fifth wicket to fall for an excellent 83. When O’Farrell soon followed, Bath lost wickets in quick succession before finishing on 225-9 from their 50 overs.

Bishopston’s reply stuttered from the start, losing Saurabh Rawat (18) and Tristan Jungbauer (4) to leave the away side 43-2. Skipper David O’Brien then anchored the innings, scoring 44 from 75 balls as wickets fell around him, and when O’Brien eventually departed, Bishopston were 139-5 with a lot of work to do to get over the line. However, Bishopston’s middle order held firm as Ed Denman (32), Gary Booth (32*) and William Thirkwell (23*) combined well to take the away side past Bath’s score with ten balls to be bowled, and to win by four wickets. Pick of the bowlers for Bath were Jacob Lewis (2-21) and Kester Moseley (2-31). Bishopston leapfrog Bath into the top spot in the league because of this win.
