Bath CC 1st XI v Thornbury CC 1st XI

Bath’s 1st XI picked up another important win on Saturday, as they beat Thornbury CC 1st XI by six wickets at North Parade.

After winning the toss and electing to field, Bath’s seam attack soon got on top of Thornbury’s batters and within ten overs the away team were 32-2, including the prize wicket of skipper, Harry Thomas (5). The Thornbury middle order then all made starts, but despite four batters passing 20, nobody went on to make a significant score and as wickets continued to tumble, the away team were eventually bowled out for 180 in the 40th over of their innings. Pick of the Bath bowlers were James Arney (3-25), Louis Brown (3-46), and Spencer Gammon (2-17).

Bath’s reply got off to a fine start as opener, Ben Wells hit anything lose to the boundary and with opening partner, Brad Porteous in support, they put on 63 for the first wicket when Porteous was bowled for 10. Ben Wells soon followed for an excellent 48 from just 38 balls, but then the home side slipped from 67-2 to 103-4 as they lost key batters Harry Dixon (15) and Sam Young (9). However, Jack Scrivens (38*) and skipper, Harry Ellison (49*) took their side to a six wicket victory with almost 20 overs still to be bowled. Bath are now third from bottom in Prem One with a 16 point cushion from Bristol CC, who are in the drop zone.
