Bath CC 1st XI v Thornbury CC 1st XI
Bath CC 1st XI lost against Thornbury CC 1st XI on Saturday at The Ship Field, Thornbury.
After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Bath made the worst of starts as they lost both Ben Wells (0) and Brad Porteous (1) inside the first five overs to leave the away side 9-2. Although Sam Young anchored the innings, he continued to lose batters around him as Jack Scrivens (10), Ben Church (7), and Harry Ellison (1) all departed before Young was the sixth Bath wicket to fall for a solid 40 to leave Bath 85-6. James Arney (29) batted well down the order to make an important contribution, but Bath continued to lose wickets and were eventually bowled out for 140 in the 46thover.
Thornbury’s reply also started badly as opener, Thomas Vermaak went without scoring off the bowling of James Arney (2-46), but fellow opener Josh Riggs and Robbie O’Donnell then took the positive approach, putting on 67 in just over six overs before Riggs went for a rapid 28. With Thornbury 68-1 with 43 overs still to go, there was only really going to be one winner of this match as O’Donnell and Joshua Thomas continued to bat aggressively adding a further 52 before Thomas went for 34. O’Donnell (66*) and Chris Gibson (10) then took the side to a seven wicket victory in the 18th over. Bath 1st XI slip back down to 4th place in Premier One as a result of this loss.
