Bath CC 2nd XI v Bishopston CC 1st XI

Bath 2nd XI travelled to Bristol to face Bishopston CC 1st XI at Westbury Fields on Saturday.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Bath’s opening batters initially struggled, losing Alex Haleem (1) with only eight runs on the board. Fellow opener, Harry Allen and Ben Harper then brought some momentum to the home sides innings as they added 74 inside 18 overs before Allen went for 41. Harper (38) followed shortly after to leave Bath 93-3. Wickets continued to tumble as the middle and lower order found it hard to impose themselves, but Ross Newman with a run-a-ball 30 helped take Bath’s total up to 183-8 from their 50 overs.

In reply, Bath quickly felt in with a chance as they removed Tristan Jungbauer (3) and Arnold Otwani (28) to leave Bishopston 36-2. But then skipper, David O’Brien and Saurabh Rawat put on a match winning partnership of 108, with Rawat run out for 70 and O’Brien eventually going for 53 with just 17 runs needed for victory. It was then left to Dominic Hooper (16*) and Siddhant Patil (4*) to take Bishopston across the line with 11 overs still to be bowled to win by six wickets. Bath 2’s have now slipped to fourth in the league.
