Bath’s 3rd XI travelled to the King George V Playing Fields on Saturday to face Cleeve CC’s 1st XI.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Bath lost Dan Hope (2) early, and when fellow opener Bill Simmons (28) was also caught behind off Barnsley (2-26), the away side found themselves 42-2. Bath then slipped to 60-5 before, once again, skipper Tim Scott (56) and all-rounder Joe Prescott (43) put on 114 for the sixth wicket to ensure that Bath had something to bowl at, as they posted an under par 184-7 from their 40 overs.

Cleeve’s reply stuttered as Tim Scott bowled Jack Spiers (5) to leave the home side 15-1. The home side’s innings was then built around the anchoring role of opener Karabo Motlhanka. As wickets continued to be picked up by the Bath seamers, Motlhanka scored an undefeated 74 to take his side to a five wicket win with just two overs to go. Bath battled hard with seamers, Tim Scott (2-24), and Luke Wlesh (2-31) particularly standing out. Bath’s 3rd XI have now slipped down to 5th in the league with any hope of promotion now gone.
