Bath CC 3rd XI v Lodway CC 1st XI
Bath’s 3rd XI made short work of their top of the table clash with Lodway at home on Saturday by beating the top side by 100 runs.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Bath lost Sam Simmons (10) in the 11th over with 32 on the board. Ben Harper then batted steadily with Jack Goodwin before falling for 9, and when Will Poulton went without scoring, the home side were 74-3 in the 21st over, with work to be done. But Bath’s middle order then really shone as Samuel Preece batted very positively with Goodwin before he fell for a steady 57. Preece (63), skipper, Tim Scott (33) and Joe Prescott (25) then lifted Bath’s total to a defendable 220-9.
Lodway’s reply never really got going as they slipped to 41-5 inside their first 13 overs – with some very effective seam bowling from Tim Scott (2-18), Robert Patch (1-15), and Luke Welsh (1-24). Tobias Rice (41) and Stephen Edmonds (25) were the only batters to resist, but when Joe Prescott (4-40) picked up both batters along with another two wickets the match was over as Lodway were bowled out in the 27th over for just 120. As a result of this win, Bath 3rd XI have closed the points gap on Lodway to 16.
