Bath CC 3rd XI v Shirehampton CC 1st XI
Bath 3rds won their second division home match against Shirehampton CC 1st XI on Saturday.
After being asked to bat first, Bath made a disappointing start to their innings as they slipped to 63-4. But some excellent batting from Ben Harper (68) and Tim Scott (40) took the home sides total up to a competitive, 188-6 from their 40 overs.
Shirehampton’s reply started solidly, but they lost three quick wickets to slip from 37 without loss to 39-3. This left the match nicely poised, but Danny Conway (44) and skipper, Brad Spooner (25) then batted sensibly to take the away side’s total up to 86, before Toby Eayres bowled Spooner. Will Ireland then picked up the first of his three wickets by bowling Conway. The match remained in the balance to the very end, but the effective bowling combination of Chandana Kariyapperumage (1-31) and Will Ireland (3-43) and 15 year old, Peter Biggs (1-12) on his 3rd XI debut, came out on the top, as Shirehampton fell six runs short of the Bath total. Bath picked up 18 points to remain in the top four in the Bristol & District 2nd Division.
