Bath CC 3rd XI v Timsbury CC 1st XI

Bath 3rd XI lost a high scoring match to Timsbury 1st XI on Saturday at the Brownsword Ground.

After Timsbury won the toss and elected to bat first, Mark Sage and Gary Pearcy got the away side off to a flyer as they put on a partnership of 74 before Pearcy (14) was run out. This then brought Kevin Sibley to the crease, and Sage and Sibley continued the momentum, putting on 98 for the second wicket before Sage went for an excellent 103. Sibley then continued to bat well with Freddie Hosford (55) before falling for 72 from just 60 balls. Paul Cracknell then smashed an undefeated 30, as Timsbury reached an imposing 309-4 from their 40 overs.

Bath’s reply stuttered as Sam Simmons (8) was bowled in the 5th over to leave the home side 14-1. John Bean (36) and Dan Hope (35) then added 67 for the second wicket, and although both these batters were out in quick succession, Samuel Preece (66) and skipper, Tim Scott (48) kept up the momentum, putting on almost 100 for the 4th wicket before Scott departed. Preece continued to bat with the lower order but when he was the 6th wicket to fall, Bath still needed 82 runs from the last five overs. The home side made a valiant effort but, in the end, they were bowled out for 263 in their 40 overs.
