Bath CC 4th XI v Abbots Leigh CC 1st XI
Bath 4th XI picked up maximum points on Saturday with a convincing 92 run victory over Abbots Leigh 1st XI at the Brownsword Ground.
After being asked to bat first, openers David Pippett and Louis Russell once again made a solid start to the home teams innings with a partnership of 85 before Russell was caught shortly after tea for 40. This brought Thiaan Aspeling to the wicket to join Pippett, and these two batters added a further 95 for the second wicket before Aspeling (47) was bowled painfully short of his half century. David Pippett soon followed, run out for 81, but Alan Alex (12) and Jack Pippett (16*) kept the scoreboard ticking to take Bath’s score up to 219-5 from their 40 overs.
The Abbots Leigh reply started well, but the introduction of Alan Alex to the attack proved pivotal as he removed Muhammad Sikandar Mustafa (17), and this started a mini collapse as seamer, Alex Moss (2-20) bowled both Andy Hamilton (0) and opener, Jonny Weber (15) to leave the home side 36-3. This quickly became 45-5 as Alex (3-23) picked up two more wickets. This brought Syed Ali Eazaz to the crease, who played a positive knock as wickets continued to tumble around him from the left arm spin of Ashik Mia (4-28). But when Mia took the important wicket of Eazaz for 52 off just 36 balls, Bath knew the match was won, and the next over Parth Gohel (4) was bowled, to leave the away side 127 all out in the 32nd over.
